For The Fallen - Now That The War Is Over
King's Own Royal Regiment Museum, Lancaster.

Telling the story of the King's Own Regiment and Lancaster District in 1918 and 1919 from the Armistice to the Peace Celebrations. The exhibition includes a Victoria Cross never previously on public display. Displays also look at the Khaki Election; the Influenza epidemic; war memorials; peace celebrations; poets including The King's Own's Isaac Rosenberg and Lancaster born Laurence Binyon who wrote, in September 1914, the poem 'For the Fallen' a manuscript copy of which is on display in the exhibition.
The Museum is located within the City Museum, Market Square, Lancaster, LA1 1HT, and is open 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Sunday. Admission is free.

This year's conference is titled Reflections On The Great War chaired by WFA President Prof Peter Simkins and hosts a number of prominent speakers; Dr. Spencer Jones, Prof. John Bourne, Prof. Martin Alexander and Prof. Gary Sheffield.

This year's conference and AGM will start at 9.30am on Saturday 27th April and will be opened by WFA President Prof. Peter Simkins. The morning session will host two speakers; Dr. Oliver Wilkinson - Escapes and Escapades? British POWs during the First World War and Dr. Fiona Reid - Shell Shock After the First World War.
A buffet lunch is provided for £15, but must be pre-booked.
The afternoon session will host the WFA AGM.

Armistice 100 at Wakefield Museum.
Commemorating 100 years since the end of the First World War, Wakefield Museum tells the stories of three local people who joined the war effort, Private George Kellett, Sergeant Arthur Cox and Nurse Marion Walker. In the museum Welcome Space visitors can see the diary kept by Private Kellett in the trenches in 1918. You can also pay tribute to Boer War veteran and honorary Freeman of Wakefield, Sergeant Cox, who served with Royal Field Artillery in the First World War and was sadly killed in northern France in 1917. His Military Medal for bravery in the field is on display alongside his family's mementos. Across the corridor in Create café, see reproduced pages from Nurse Walker's autograph book, signed by her patients as they recovered from illness and injury at the White Rose Military Hospital. Their drawings, mottos and messages are a moving insight into wartime resilience and are full of friendship and love, humour and hope.

The final First World War commemorative exhibition exploring what life was like for Warrington's soldier’s returning home from the horrors of the war. After the prolonged strain and anxiety of war, Warrington abandoned itself to rejoicing on November 11th 1918 when according to the Warrington Guardian, "As by a common instinct the people made their way to the front of the Town Hall ...where the Mayor formally announced the completion of the Armistice and paid fitting tribute to the valour of Warrington’s sons in the fighting Force, and there was much cheering, singing and general jubilation. Sailors and soldiers arm in arm and singing well-known airs made their way good humouredly through the streets."

This military themed weekend will take place at The Apedale Valley Light Railway, operated by The Moseley Railway Trust, The aim of the Trust is to preserve, conserve and interpret artefacts from Industrial Narrow Gauge Railways, including locomotives and other vehicles.
Location: Loomer Road, Chesterton, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire ST5 7LB.

War Horse returns to the Liverpool Empire 31 July - 17 August 2019

At the outbreak of World War One, Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the Cavalry and shipped to France. He’s soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. Albert, who remained on his parents’ Devon farm, cannot forget Joey. Though still not old enough to enlist he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home. Based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, this powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of phenomenal inventiveness.
